How it works
Viranda is a free app that hooks up two students in a secret chat—one shares (a “Ventor”) and the other listens (a “Vira”). When the chat’s done, it’s wiped clean like it never happened. And yeah, it’s totally anonymous, so no one’s ever gonna know who’s on the other side.
It’s a chill, no-pressure, non-crisis way to feel instant relief on campus – got something on your mind? Viranda will match you with a Vira who’s ready to listen and lift you up. Want to switch it up? You can apply to be a Vira and empower your fellow students.

Why now?
In a world where everyone’s connected, it’s wild how disconnected we actually feel. Nearly 63% of students report feeling lonely (ACHA)! The stress of college, fear of judgment, and the pressure to fit in make isolation a daily reality.
Viranda was built to change that—because no one should feel lonely on campus. Let’s build a world where every voice is heard!
FAQ
Viras are not therapists, they’re everyday individuals who excel at listening and showing empathy. They don’t give advice or tell you what to do. Instead, they provide a safe space for you to share your thoughts and find understanding.
Everyone can apply to become a Vira, but we prioritize ensuring that candidates are well-suited for the role. They go through a brief AI-driven interview to assess their alignment with our standards of empathy, active listening, and communication skills.
If you are an empathetic, open-minded listener who values making others feel heard and understood, you may be a great fit for the Vira role. However, being a Vira is more than just listening—it requires a deep commitment to empathy and support.
To be a Vira, you must be ready to accept and act by the Henosis Empathy Code, which includes the following 10 principles:
- No Advising – Your role is to listen, not to give solutions or opinions.
- No Judging – Every person’s feelings and experiences are valid.
- No Ignoring – Acknowledge and respond with care to what is shared.
- No Interrupting – Give the other person space to express themselves fully.
- No Pressuring – Let conversations flow naturally, without forcing responses.
- Preserve Confidentiality – What’s shared in the chat stays in the chat.
- Validate Feelings – Recognize emotions and affirm their importance.
- Offer Praise & Empowerment – Encourage and uplift without imposing.
- Respect The Other Side – Honor different perspectives and lived experiences.
- Listen, Don’t Merely Hear – Be fully present and engaged in the conversation.
To ensure you align with these principles, all Vira candidates go through a short AI-driven interview assessing their empathy, communication, and listening skills. If you’re committed to providing a safe, supportive space for others, you’re likely a great fit!
No, the amount of time you dedicate is entirely up to you, whether it’s a few hours a week or more. If you can’t converse during this time, that’s perfectly fine. You have complete control over how you contribute, and we value every moment you spend empathically listening to others.
Absolutely! Viranda prioritizes your safety and anonymity. All conversations are anonymous, and your personal information is secure.
Your presence as a Vira is incredibly impactful. It means helping individuals navigate their struggles and offering them a listening ear when they need it most. Your empathy can spark hope and remind someone that they are not alone, wherever they may be, whatever they may be going through. Your kindness matters, and it can change lives.
Due to the sensitive and anonymous nature of Viranda, we cannot disclose the specific content of our conversations. However, here are some general topics from the past:
- Frustration over a difficult group project at school.
- Feeling nervous about an upcoming presentation.
- Wanting to share excitement about a new hobby.
- Annoyance with a roommate’s habits.
- Feeling left out of a group event.
- Being upset about losing a favorite item.
- Needing to talk about a funny or embarrassing moment.
- Feeling overwhelmed with a busy schedule.
- Looking for motivation to stay productive.
- Feeling unappreciated after helping friends or family.
Being a Vira is designed to be enjoyable and uplifting, not to make you feel depressed or overwhelmed. Many Vira find that helping Ventors find relief can be incredibly rewarding. While we are not certified therapists and our role is not to provide professional counseling, listening and being there for someone else often leads to a sense of fulfillment and purpose. Our model focuses on lending an empathic ear, sharing experiences, and creating connections.

In our community

Imagine this:
You spend an hour scrolling through social media, liking posts and leaving comments. Now, picture spending that same hour as a Vira—listening to 10 students who, at the start of the conversation, felt like a 5 out of 10, but by the end, feel like a 9 out of 10 because of your support.
Which would leave you feeling more satisfied?
Both take the same amount of time and effort, but the impact you make as a Vira is truly powerful. Spend your time making a real difference. Join Viranda and experience the power of your listening.
"Being a Vira has been such a rewarding part of my time. Listening to others not only gives me the chance to make a difference, but it’s also helped me build the kind of empathy and communication skills that are crucial in social work."
